Megan Talley, CPA
Senior Professional Team Member

Personal Formation and Forte

Megan joined Burkhart & Company after graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelors of Science degree in accounting and a Masters of Accountancy degree with a concentration in taxation. During the pursuit of her undergraduate degree, Megan received the honor of Top Graduate from the College of Business Administration. Before joining the firm, Megan gained experience in a variety of accounting roles and taught fundamental business functions as a Graduate Teaching Assistant.

Megan has a personality that breaks through all stereotypical “green eye shade” images. Her vivacious outlook on life is daily influential. She brings taxes to Technicolor while explaining law changes or working with a colleague on an issue. Combining her mental horsepower with her positive outlook, you can count on a can-do attitude from Megan. She heightens the fun factor for her team, but can drill down with the best when duties thicken.

Turning Points

  • Realizing her emotional attachment to animals would pre-empt her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian,  she began exploring other service-oriented careers
  • Deciding to break the mold of becoming an educator in her family, she took her love of math and logic and pursued a business degree
  • Working through college on a full scholarship while she saved her pennies for a rainy day as any self-respecting accountant would

Practice Emphasis

As a member of the professional team, Megan’s areas of focus include:

  • Tax compliance and planning,
  • Personal financial planning including retirement and estate planning, and
  • Accounting processes and financial statement preparation.

Broader Interests

Megan is one to bring laughter and fun into her space and her space can include camping, four-wheeling, waterskiing, traveling to new destinations and participating in anything competitive. Since the age of five, she has been making a joyful noise. From her earliest Christmas Pageant to her current post as a first soprano in the church choir, she mostly enjoys fulfilling her ministry through song.
