Personal Formation and Forte

Originally from Houston, Texas, Kristen moved to Knoxville to pursue collegiate studies. She holds two degrees from the University of Tennessee: a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Master of Accountancy degree with a concentration in taxation. Kristen began her career with Burkhart & Company first working as an intern during tax season, continuing on as a part-time employee during graduate school and eventually as a full-time professional upon the completion of her studies.

Kristen has practical “street smarts” accompanied by a healthy curiosity that give her an edge in solving complex problems. You can count on her being fully engaged and self motivated. Once she sets her mind to something, stand back and watch her go. She has a drive for excellence and is disciplined in setting the bar high in all aspects of her life. As to her heart, whenever her team is engaged in a ministry of mercy, you will find Kristen in the middle of it giving her all.

Turning Points

  • Recognizing her love for problem solving and math as a young child when her parents, who were both teachers, encouraged her to solve math problems instead of reading traditional bedtime stories
  • Realizing her dream to attend a college in a different state, lived out by her leaving Texas and making a new home in Big Orange Country
  • Finding an internship that allowed her to test the alignment of her values to the firm  which she would join after graduation

Practice Emphasis

Kristen’s uses her years of experience to focus on:

  • Complex tax compliance and planning,
  • Accounting and financial reporting for trusts, investment partnerships and operating businesses, and
  • Outsourcing and special projects.

Broader Interests

Kristen is a member of the vibrant, young “creative class” in Knoxville participating in community and college town events. Having completed her first marathon in Vermont, she is focusing now on conquering a complete triathlon. Kristen also is pursuing her passion for exploring new places with a plan to visit all fifty states.
