Personal Formation and Forte

Jack joined Burkhart & Company after completing with highest honors a Bachelors of Science degree in accounting and a Masters of Accountancy degree with a concentration in taxation from the University of Tennessee. Before joining the firm, Jack gained experience in a number of jobs ranging from youth mentoring, an accounting teaching assistantship, and an internal audit position with a large utility. Jack also was among the top 10 performers on the CPA exam for Tennessee.

Jack leads every encounter with his winsome spirit and relational intelligence. Stepping back to gain a broader business perspective, he thinks through client situations strategically, challenging the status quo for the sake of the best outcome. He sharpens his capabilities by continuously reading, drawing from his study group, networking and keeping an open mind. Jack lifts his team by infusing lightness, laughter and even random acts of singing.

Turning Points

  • Understanding the express link between accounting and well-informed decision making during his management accounting class
  • Recognizing through his early jobs and ministry experiences his soul-shaped attraction to a “people business” with the variety and intensity it affords
  • Participating in leadership formation activities which led to a realization of his calling to serve business leaders capably from a base of financial knowledge and wisdom

Jack spearheads the firm’s professional recruiting efforts and serves entrepreneurs and their related entities with:

  • Practice management consulting,
  • Accounting systems and financial reporting, and
  • Tax compliance and planning.

Broader Interests

Jack is active in Nucleus Knoxville, the Estate Planning Counsel and a business strategy discussion group. Learning alone or in the company of others is Jack’s favorite hobby, but his best hours are spent with his wife and daughter where you might find him swinging Caroline, watching sing-along DVDs, working in the yard, and enjoying fresh air.
